Spreading Nonviolence in the World

After several years of teaching nonviolence to youth and adults, we created these cards to teach the principles and practices of nonviolence through the lens of Gandhi’s life, whose name is among the most famous in world history.

These cards are useful for middle school students through adults in:

  • Workshops
  • Classrooms
  • Leadership training
  • Interfaith dialogues

People all over the world have had a chance to interact with our cards and have found them useful for personal meditation, historical education and as an “icebreaker” tool to get people thinking about social justice (they also make great graduation gifts!). The cards include original photos from Gandhi’s life and the Indian Independence Movement on the front, and historical information, and interactive prompts on the back.

Gandhi Cards in Action

Our goal is to increase people’s understanding about nonviolence in a way that is informative, interactive, and inspirational by communicating the message of hope and peace that Gandhi fought so hard to achieve in his brilliant lifetime.

We love to receive stories and pictures of our Gandhi Cards in action. Have some to share? Email them to jamie@gandhiinstitute.org.

Feedback

“I keep the cards on my desk as a reminder to speak with more care and awareness when dealing with challenging colleagues.”

– Rochester City School District Administrator

“The Gandhi Cards provide a perfect opportunity to cultivate habits of mind and heart that will lead people to act ethically, courageously, kindly, and wisely. They can be incorporated fluidly and flexibly into language arts and social studies curricula; be utilized by groups attempting to diminish violence in all its forms in any community, and provide a powerful way for anyone to introduce important questions about peace in the context of powerful stories about Mahatma Gandhi’s life and work.”

– Zoe Weil, President, The Institute for Humane Education

“I believe the Gandhi & Nonviolence Cards are a very beneficial tool to spread the message of nonviolence in the classroom or even at workshops. I think the cards set the tone of an informal, subtle way of implementing the information in a different form that reaches the need or learning style of everyone.”

– Julia Polidore-Oakley, Director, Nonviolence Social Empowerment Project
