SUMMARY:Effective Connections with Meganwind Eoyang
DESCRIPTION: \n“Never again will you believe that a person is too hard to work with\, a decision too complicated to make\, or a conversation too difficult to have.”\n    -S. McCormick \nThis course is essential if you are interested in:\n* Communicating clearly and effectively\n* Building stronger relationships with others (and with yourself!)\n* Initiating and navigating even difficult conversations \nThis will be a 6-week series. Through a combination of engaging group discussions and practice time\, you gain an understanding of the basic principles of NVC. These skills are useful at work\, at school\, with your family\, in line at the grocery store\, in social action situations and anywhere else that you interact with people! \nCOST: $150-250 Sliding Scale\, \nCapacity is limited to 14\, please register below to reserve your spot \nRECOMMENDED READING:\nNonviolent Communication: A Language of Life by Marshall Rosenberg is our class textbook for at home learning. If you enjoy learning by writing\, you may also want to get a copy of  Nonviolent Communication\, A Companion Workbook by Lucy Leu\, which has written exercises and activities for each chapter of Marshall Rosenberg’s book. These books are available at CNVC.org or Amazon.com or at your local library. \n \nMEGANWIND EOYANG\nMeganwind Eoyang came to the study of Nonviolent Communication from a very different world. She grew up street fighting on the south side of Chicago. Her longing for sweet\, deep connection with fellow humans arose after first finding safety and meaning in nature. She was excited to discover that Nonviolent Communication offers clear steps for practicing the compassion\, self-love\, and love for others which her Chinese\, European and North American (and other) spiritual traditions invite us to live. She has been a trainer with Bay Area Nonviolent Communication since 2004. \nYou may enjoy watching:\nA 10-minute video interview of Meganwind speaking about empathy.\nA 4-minute video interview of Meganwind speaking about examples of empathy with inmates at San Quentin and in her coaching sessions with couples.

SUMMARY:Conflict In The Comments

How can we deal with online hate and misinformation – or friends and relatives reposting such things – and get through heated arguments to meaningful communication?\nJoin Rivera Sun and Dominic Barter to explore these questions and emergent best practices for an online conversation\, moderated by Kit Miller. \nThese online skills can also translate into a toolbox that we can use in the street or around the dinner table to shift from fighting to opening hearts and minds. \nModerator: \nKit Miller serves as director of the MK Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence in Rochester\, NY and facilitates the Nonviolence Now project team.  She teaches and works on projects related to restorative justice and anti-racism as applications of nonviolence in Rochester. \nAwesome guests: \nRivera Sun is the author of The Dandelion Insurrection and other novels and essays. She is a trainer in strategy for nonviolent movements and has been a social media for social change coordinator for Campaign Nonviolence\, Metta Center for Nonviolence\, and others. \nDominic Barter designs social systems that promote dialogue\, empathy\, innovation and partnership.
