Laith Awad
Laith is a proud Puerto Rican-Palestinian individual with a distinctive blend of experiences rooted in both research and community service. In his pursuit of a BS in Clinical and Translational Sciences and a BA in Health, Behavior, and Society, Laith has immersed himself in cardiovascular research at the Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute in Rochester, New York. His research endeavors encompassed a broad spectrum, ranging from delving into the complexities of coronary artery disease to investigating the profound impact of HIV on endothelial cell functions. However, Laith is now focused on researching the impacts of social determinants of health on people’s lives.
Beyond the confines of the lab, Awad’s passion for healthcare is evident in his hands-on work in communities affected by earthquakes in Puerto Rico and his advocacy for mental health in the Rochester community. A dedicated educator, Laith has taken the lead in mentoring students in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry and has led tutoring initiatives to support minority and immigrant students. Fluent in Arabic, Spanish, and English, Laith’s intercultural fluency is a testament to his ability to bridge diverse communities. Awad remains unwavering in his commitment to fostering understanding, inclusivity, and progress in both academic and real-world contexts. Laith is committed to a life of service.
